Handheld Coating Measurement Body

This coating thickness meter uses dual substrate recognition for measuring paint and coating depth on ferrous and non-ferrous metal panels. The housing is manufactured from ABS material with a handheld vertical layout sized for one-hand operation during vehicle inspections. Digital measurement functions support steel body panels, aluminum hoods, doors, fenders, and metal-coated automotive components.

How the Sensor Reads Body Panels

The gauge measures coating thickness directly against metallic surfaces using integrated sensor detection. Automatic material recognition switches between steel and aluminum substrates without manual adjustment during inspection. Common vehicle applications include checking paint consistency across doors, quarter panels, roofs, trunks, and replacement body sections. The meter is also compatible with metal bicycle frames, powder-coated components, anodized aluminum surfaces, lockers, and appliance housings.

Bag Ready for Vehicle Checks

Setup requires inserting the included 9V battery and calibrating the sensor using the supplied standard foils and metal reference plates. The compact body can be stored inside a storage bag for transport between garages, parking lots, auctions, and workshops. Measurement surfaces should remain clean and dry during operation to maintain direct sensor contact with the metal substrate. The device is intended for metallic materials only and is not compatible with plastic, fiberglass, wood, or composite body panels.

Product Benefits:

  • Dual Substrate Detection: Automatically identifies steel and aluminum base metals during measurement.
  • Handheld Inspection Tool: Compact gauge body sized for vehicle inspection kits and tool storage.
  • Direct Contact Probe: Sensor head reads coating thickness through surface contact.
  • Panel-to-Panel Readings: Suitable for checking multiple exterior vehicle body sections.
  • Metal Surface Use: Intended for coated metallic panels and finished metal components.

the display is easy to read in direct sunlight which matters a lot when you're outside at a lot or a private seller's driveway. numbers are big and clear, no squinting or tilting the screen to see what it says.

works fine on curved panels too, which is something I never even thought to check before buying. my old gauge would go haywire on anything that wasn't perfectly flat. this one handles door curves and fenders without throwing random numbers at me.

I was worried about build quality after getting burned by a cheap one before, but this feels solid in the hand and the probe tip seems durable. been using it on a bunch of inspections and it hasn't let me down yet.

it picks up on filler really well. checked a car that looked clean visually and the gauge flagged two spots on the rear quarter panel with noticeably higher readings. pulled the listing photos up again and sure enough there was a shadow in the right light. this thing pays for itself.

Very pleased with this. Readings are consistent and it feels well made. Exactly what I needed for checking panels before purchasing.

Saved me from buying a car with hidden body damage. Checked it over thoroughly before signing anything and found repainted sections the seller never mentioned. Worth every penny.

what I appreciate most is that it automatically detects whether the surface is steel or aluminum and adjusts accordingly. you don't have to manually switch modes, just press it to the panel and you get a clean reading. makes going around a whole car really fast.

Does what it says. No complaints from me at all, been using it since I got it and no problems 💯.

the tip placement is satisfying, like you can feel when you've got a solid contact with the surface. some gauges feel sloppy and you're never sure if you're getting a real measurement. this one has a firmness to it that makes you trust the number on screen.

my last one would give completely different readings depending on the angle you held it, drove me crazy trying to figure out if a car had been repainted. this one is consistent every single time, same spot same result, no guessing games.

simple to use and accurate as far as I can tell 🔧

told my buddy to grab one of these when he was shopping for a used truck, he was nervous about accuracy on aluminum panels since a lot of gauges struggle with that. he texted me after saying it worked perfectly on both the steel doors and the aluminum hood, no issues at all.

Compact and easy to carry around. Fits right in my jacket pocket when I'm walking a lot.

ok this thing is actually so helpful when buying used cars, I feel like I actually know what I'm looking at now instead of just hoping for the best.
